1. Describe the application before selecting the product route
A “chrome shaft” may be a non-induction-hardened soft shaft, an induction-hardened chrome shaft, or a Q&T chrome-plated bar. Application, load, mating components and downstream machining determine which route should be evaluated first.
State the installation position, motion, bearing or seal interface and whether turning, milling or drilling will follow supply.
2. Complete eight technical fields
Connect material, condition, size, geometry, surface, ends, inspection and delivery. Diameter and length alone do not define final size, machining allowance or acceptance responsibility.
- Material grade or permitted reference, plus document requirements
- Heat-treatment or supply condition
- Diameter, length, quantity and limit deviations or tolerance code
- Function-critical straightness, roundness, cylindricity or run-out
- Surface texture, engineering-chrome thickness, hardness and finishing
- Threads, steps, holes, chamfers and other end features
- Inspection method, location, sampling, reports and decision rules
- Corrosion and scratch protection, bubble film, cotton wrapping, pallet or crate
3. Separate capability from order acceptance values
Website and catalogue values usually describe process capability; they do not automatically become defaults for every size. Put the required tolerance, chrome, hardness and test location into the confirmed drawing, specification or order.
If buyer and supplier use different standards systems, identify the edition and decision rule before order placement.
4. Use a reviewable RFQ sequence
Recommended order: product/application → material/condition → diameter × length × quantity → size and geometry → surface/hardness → end machining → inspection/documents → packing/destination. Resolve conflicts between drawings and written notes before quotation.
